Web App with a minimalistic design for professional meteorologists
The app is assisting professional meteorologists to develop accurate and precise forecast
Snow42 is a project of two amazing entrepreneurs who are inventing a whole system to prevent avalanches.
The main purpose is to create an app that helps to predict weather accurately and develop a precise forecast using simple and convenient interface.
The weather station interface is part of the system that helps predict avalanche danger, so the main challenge was to immediately provide for the flexibility of the application.
It is important to create a user friendly application for meteorologists that allows them to analyse a large amount of data using weather parameters.

Overview
Alexey and Mikhail decided to start with the creation of a high-precision meteorological station, which will later help to create accurate forecasts of weather conditions and especially the alternation of snow and rain in the spring.
While the customers were testing the weather stations in difficult conditions, I began to study the best practices in developing weather applications and planning interviews with potential users.
We had already worked with Alexey before, so the guys completely trusted my approach to creating applications.
By the time I started working on the project, I already had experience creating applications for equipment designed to conduct environmental monitoring.
That project was exciting from the very beginning

Design process
Throughout the product design and development process, I utilized a range of research methods, including focus groups and in-depth interviews, to iteratively improve and refine the product.
The chart below outlines the key stages of the application development process.
Interview with users
The first stage of design process includes competitors analysis and User Interviews.
The initial task is to define everyday problems of meteorologists while observing parameters from weather stations and forecasting weather
Communicating the professionals and asking a lot of questions

"I would like to see the full range of information and to analyse it from different visual dashboards"
Taylor
"Incomprehensive navigation is confusing. I would like to customize the app to my needs"
Stephen
"I need to be able to check all the data shown in the form of graphs and charts, so I would like to download raw data from weather stations"
Amanda
"I need to analyse data of previous period to develop more precise forecast"

User Persona
Integrating user personas into the design and development process allows to grasp the real-world scenarios in which users operate. This includes taking into account their work environments, current tools, and the various challenges they encounter.
In the context of creating a professional weather forecasting app, user personas serve as a foundational element in the design process. They ensure that the final product is user-centered, addresses the distinct needs of its target audience, and leads to more successful outcomes.
User Flow
In this stage, we aim to craft an optimal interface solution tailored to user needs. After conducting thorough interviews and analyzing the findings, I concentrated on mapping out the user flow. This process allowed me to identify key touchpoints and interactions within the application, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience for users.
This stage helps to develop suitable interface solution
By visualizing how users navigate through the application, I was able to pinpoint potential pain points and areas for improvement. Each step was carefully considered, from the initial onboarding experience to the completion of forecast, ensuring that professional meteorologists remain engaged and satisfied throughout their journey.
Visual Identity
The visual style adopts a subtle approach, featuring color accents solely in the primary controls and notifications.
Сolor as an assistant
Additionally, colors are utilized in graphs and tables to highlight key parameters when generating forecasts.

Dashboard
The main tool for developing a forecast
Weather conditions are presented in 3 types: graphic, table and raw data.
This feature was implemented after user research, because meteorologists often analyse all data simultaneously.
It helps to see data in dynamic to predict weather trends.
Graphic section divided with 5 sections: wind speed and wind direction are united in one section for analysis.
Color scheme serves to highlight and compare various weather parameters quickly.
